Rolla, ND | Planter can be important for winter kill if you seed too shallow, but you didn't mention that your stands were thin. While planter is important, I doubt if it would cause differences as big as you mention. Though if you can't put phosphorus down when you seed it could be pretty significant depending on your history of phosphorus use.
If you are just expecting the winter wheat to scavenge phosphorus that could be quite important. But you mentioned starter fertilizer so that pretty well said to me that you were putting it down the drill.
