| Yeah, but Jim, we are a global economy. The US may be pumping out corn on every crop acre in this country, but that doesn't mean bean prices will come up. South America will just drop some of their corn and cotton acres and grow more beans, maybe China will produce theirs and the rest of Asia's protein needs by ramping up bean production as well as hog and beef production, thus no longer needing ours, and it is a lot closer to get corn from Eastern Europe's millions of fertile acres to China to feed that livestock than from our ports. It took us a century to develop our economy and now Asia is developing theirs in a decade thanks to all our help.
No way is our corn production a sustainable practice. It is extremely petroleum dependent and very reliant on Monsanto's patches to our production problems. RR, Bt, RW, all technologies that if we lost would crumble our corn production. This won't continue forever, what if we get a curve from Mother Nature they can't figure out. Right now I am hearing reports of down corn that is CB and RW resistant because the RW are so bad, how do we solve that, run insecticide behind RW corn, eventually RW larvae will become resistant to the insecticide. We continue to compound the patches to our production deficiets but without sustainability it will only last a generation.
Interested in your thoughts on the above. I don't have an answer, but we need some long term visionaries in agriculture with a realistic approach, not just maximizing profit for one year, who can impact change.
