Subject: RE: RR ALFALFA

West of Dalhart, Texas
I planted Golden Harvest 709 RR this spring. The RFV and yield is above average for our area. The cost for 20 #'s per acre on 125 acres was $4.50 per #. The conventional acres planted in this area had a lot of weed problems this spring; which lead to major stand issues. The weed control in the RR alfalfa is unmatched in seedling stands. I am planting another 125 acres the 20 of August. We will see how it compares to the conventionals planted in the same time frame. The GH 709 RR is a 85% multi-leaf expression, 4 fall dormancy with a winter hardiness of 1.4 and a 30 out of 30 disease rating index. There are new varieties that are more regionally(fall dormancy and winterhardiness) adapted that will be out this spring.
