| I belive Doug Jackson called for at least 4 million more corn acres per year for the next decade and if that wasn't reached very soon, he expects a food shortage by 2008. With cooking oil the first shortage as its diverted to fuel raising its market price beyond affordability in countries like India.
He sees a need for corn acres way beyond western US CRP acres.
The more likely scenario as others see it is that the American farmer will find a way with the existing acres to produce more than the market needs and so to depress the market prices to just below profitability again. This will happen first with ethanol and then will ripple back to the corn farmer.
