So then, let's put in a more typical corn belt rent of $150-160. My rents run closer to $130, the last two years I've grown 170+ bu corn with 120 #'s actual N and about 30K population. Most other costs should be similar. Our machinery cost/bu should be significantly less.
Overall,I don't think it matters where you live, for the most part, farming is fairly competitive and rents adjust to allow a certain maximum return on investment. Land price can vary more widely as more other factors (1031, recreation, development) can influence the land value.
