High Springs, Florida | Since I moved down here from Ohio, I have found Floridians have a different view of sweet corn than us Yankees. First, if it ain't Silver Queen, it ain't corn. A shame, since there are so many varieties out there that blow it out of the water. Second, they pick it, then let it set out in the hot sun. I see many "road side stands" with old, dried out husks, with half cooked corn inside. I am trying to convert the locals with my plantings of GS 277A, but it's an uphill battle. I think all the "good" sweet corn grown in Florida is shipped up north. Georgia corn is now making it's way down here. | |
