I feel for anyone that has to go through this and still say there is something going on with corn breeding programs that is allowing these problems to happen. If you have down corn get your seed rep. out there with you riding in the combine it's an excellent way to voice your dissatisfaction with corn that won't stand and it also illustrates just how much time and patience is required to harvest it too.

The only thing worse is harvesting corn that has went down after it has burned up in drought. I had this in 2002 it's an expensive proposition for very limited return. Yields were only about 70 Bu/acre but the time and expense was greatly increased.

You can see my roll a cones working at the link in the above post from Mike In France. I used short pieces of plastic pipe on my beater shaft and that seemed to keep the stalks from wrapping on the beater. I found the beater helpful for keeping the material moving back towards the auger.

 Here are some pictures from 2002. That is no mistake on the ground speed of .8 mph either although there were times where I looked over and it said 0.0 because I was having to go so slow.
