| #1. You have to have a quality product that will yield right up there with the best. If not, don't bother me.
#2. Call and ask if you can come by sometime. Some people will say stop by anytime. I will want you to set a specific time.
#3. Show me that you as a dealer know your products very well. Talk about product placement and why. Make me believe that you spend all summer walking through fields gathering data and can tell me everything I need to know about each hybrid/variety.
#4. Provide value throughout the growing year. If you see a disease or insect problem developing in the area, let me know. You should be walking so many fields that you would be one of the first to see a widespread problem.
#5. Be a champion for my operation. If you say good things about me to other farmers/landowners or I feel that you are looking out for my best interests at all times, you will gain all of my business.
I had a dealer that I had never considered doing business with follow most of these steps this year and he surprised me in his knowledge and I gave him an order. If it performs well, I will give him some more next year.
