Subject: RE: Rain & Wind

We had corn in our area 3 years ago like that. I did not need a corn reel. the corn fed in the head better than i thought. The hardest part was staying on the row. Many times i just let go of the steering wheel and it would guide it self better than i could drive. Combining at night is out of the question, and dumping on the go is also out. GPS would be helpfull in staying on the row.
The corn did better than i expected but was about 15% less in yield than the fields that did not get hit.The wind hit about the same stage as yours.
If the wind is with the rows you might have to combine one way. Its better if its across the rows.
It was interesting to see that the end rows stood better and you could see where the 4 wheel drive went across the field in the spring it stood better there too. So much for compaction being a problem???
