I wouldn't recommend taking a cutting for first crop and then no-tilling soybeans. In a dry season like this year your beans won't have enough moisture to get going, won't canopy soon enough and be stressed all season. I would kill off the remaining alfalfa in the fall and then plant whichever crop you want, corn, soybeans or wheat, in the spring.
