sw MN | The reasons P & K rates can be reduced is less soil tie up. The more fert to soil contact = more P & K tied up. Broadcasting increases tie up and some of the fert is not reached by the roots. Crop removal rates are based on broadcasting and have this figured in. I have been banding P & K in corn for many years. I reduce rates by 1/3. I think 1/2 rate is going too far. Keep in mind that these state U's base everything on avg yields. My yield goals are not avg. Banding does build soil tests with the same rates as broadcasting. | |
