sw MN | Planting corn on corn after fall disk ripping. The heavy trash cover keeps the soil cold in the spring and slows plant growth. The root balls cause planting problems and stands maybe reduced. The corn grows slow and becomes uneven. During wet times the corn is soon to have yellow area of the field. During dry periods like we have now it will stress easily. In a perfect year it works but most years it is trouble. In the not so perfect years the yield is reduced and the corn is wetter at harvest. The Mini Molboard plow has cured these problems. Last year I had a side by side in corn on corn of disk rip vs mini plow and you could see to the row where the line was all season. The corn was chopped for silage and the plowed side was 1 ft taller and greener when chopped. | |
