sw MN | Zone Till will help side hills that can not be tiled and keep seeping water. Which can be found in western or some areas of eastern SD. I am located in sw MN in a area of heavy, black, wet, and slow to warm up in the spring dirt. Many spring days are cloudy and cold. I think fall field culting of soybean ground increase's corn yields because of the mixing in of residue and exposeing of black dirt to help warm up, dry out the soil in the spring, and it helps to make a better seed bed. The ground is more mellow and helps reduce sidewall smearing and reduces clods. I would rather save the time and fuel it takes to F C soybean ground but my ROI keeps me doing it. I also have very good luck planting corn on corn on mini molboard plowed ground. Planting corn on corn in disk ripped stalks here can be a train wreck. | |
