| We use the 1.2 # N to 1bu corn rules as well. Unless they have changed it in the last year or so that is what Purdue recomends as does our soil analyist who is not tied to any fertilizer dealer. I know the U.IL is using the 1to 1 rule. I have also seen a forumla that uses the price of N & corn in determining N needs.
Planting populations all depend upon soil type & fertility as well as ear flex like JDH posted. On our good black soil we are running 34k-36k in 30" rows. On our timbersoils we are planting 30k-32k. We are on the high side of what most plant in this area but our soil fertility is probably higher than most. | |
