I would cut it. We had droughts in 88 and 92 and the alfalfa survived both years. I would actually say that it did not hurt it a bit, other than yield. The grass did not fare as well.
We had three wet years in a row: 02, 03, and 04. Those were much harder on alfalfa stands than any of the drought years.
