Skip row doesn't really apply to ur conditions, but it was a topic of discussion in one of the nighttime barley-pop sessions at this years KARA precision ag conference.....some of us, shall we say "more creative" folks wondered what would keep you from dropping 500-1000 population in the "skip" rows to avoid being considered "skip row" planting. The research seems to show the skip rows should reduce insurance exposure, but the guys who are doing it are having a hard time getting it through the channels, so why not just play the game and "plant" the skip row? Seems to me like they need to decide one way or the other....either the field is 1/3 unplanted...which would allow you to pay insurance and figure APH based on 2/3 of the acres instead of 3/3, or else it is all planted, which would allow you to insure the whole thing. If you have 1/3 of the field unplanted I bet your yields would be a lot higher. |
