Mount Vernon, WA | Everyone seems to rave about the Deutz engine fuel economy, but for an irrigation pumping application, a water cooled engine should theoretically do better on fuel if you use the pumped water for cooling, as there will be no cooling fan power loss. Yes, a water cooled engine uses a water pump, but the parasitic load of a water pump pales to that of a fan. If fuel economy is your prime concern, I would look at that pretty hard myself.
I would find a turboed, water cooled engine that would be running at about 50-75% load all day long. I would cool and aftercool it with the pumped water. That should give you ideal fuel efficiency. | |
