Kansas | Had one of the big hay guys near me tell me that he heard of someone once doing this. Said they put it in enclosed cargo cars, stuck a skid loader inside then used it to maneuver the bales til they got to the middle then they got the skid steer out and loader did the rest. I was curious as to why they just didn't use flat cars, but then using the big names (UP/SP and BNSF) they might take a month getting it to it's destination (short lines would probably have it done in a week or less) and that could be a lot of rain on them. I also think it would be hard to find a place to load to begin with. And unless you did use a short line co. all the way I'm sure it wouldn't be very cost effective. | |
