NE CO | I am sorry to hear of the drought conditions many of you are enduring. NE Colorado has been in drought for the past 6 years as well. I'm just wrapping up wheat harvest which ran 10-30 bu/ac this year. We got started planting corn in the 90's when it was raining more. However we always plan on drought, so low fertilizer rates and populations of 8-15K/ac. Many are adopting skip row planting where either one or two rows are skipped to conserve moisture till polination, although crop insurance penalizes you for doing it. I just had 1" of rain which brings the yearly total to 3.5 inches for the year so far, so am in a better mood right now. Hang in there, it always rains sooner or later.
