| It has been reported that Pioneer gave nearly 450,000 free units of seed this year. They did this to try and maintain market share as they are on the down slide. Market share for Pioneer at one time was 45%-dropped to 30% last year--and now early reports are that they lost another 1-2% again this year.
I am unsure of accuracy of reports--but from what I've seen in the country and the deals they have given--they are getting desperate. Buy 12-Get 20 Free on corn. Buy 1-1 Free. What ever deal it takes to stay on the farm is what they did. Problem with this-is that it does not reward their loyal customers-and penalized them for their retention. Loyal customers are getting tired of not getting deals and going elsewhere--therefore they continue to lose business. Monsanto and their investments in technology has been the winner-reportly up 800,000 units of corn with just DK and that does not include the technology unit increases of other companies that purchase from Corn States. | |
