sw corner Ia | Shorter, less steep slopes are easier to work with for sure, ours are about 14%, some more, some less, with a long way to the bottom. True, nobody, me included, enjoys working around them, but they are a necessary evil. I am in fremont co. right in the corner and almost all crop ground here except some of the river bluffs that is just too rough to farm is all terraced. All.
Our nrcs guys still say notill is all that is needed here. The terraces are needed if tillage is part of the equation which I don't now, but if it ever starts raining again probably will have to. | |
