Orange County NY | Jack, the prof. who did this research, spoke at a winter dairy meeting here in our county last Jan. or Feb. Very interesting meeting and he will agree that it is easier said than done. Most of us do not have the equipment to do it at this point. For example, my merger ( NH 166 ) is to narrow to pick up a swath as wide as my mo-co will put it. My chopper has a 5 ft head , mo-co is a 9` 6". So even if you don`t need to merg in first cut your still out of wack.
Another point was that while most dairy farms have expanded in cows they haven`t increased their equipment and labor at the same rate. Causing a longer time period when it comes to harvest. He knows we can`t all go buy new stuff on $11 or $12 milk but as you replace equipment keep this info in mind.
I did move my wings out as far as I thought my chopper could pick it up. | |
