Subject: RE: Storm Damage

It's really heartbreaking to see beautiful crops destroyed so quickly. The worst I've had was in '95. Corn was all tasseled and beans looked great when the worst hail I've ever seen hit. The beans were nubbins about 2" tall and the corn was a foot tall in many fields. The whole neighborhood smelled like fresh cut silage. I talked to a guy who pulled onto the shoulder 2 miles from me with his Chevy Blazer during the storm and he said it was like somebody was shooting a 22 rifle at them . The plastic outside mirrors broke away to nothing and finally the winshield broke. The local church had all the siding knocked off and most of the windows broke out as did many houses nearby. My best field was 76% loss according to the hail adjuster. Corn hit $5 that winter and none to sell.
