Subject: Re: contract rye

Martinsville, Ohio
I have dabbled in buckwheat, sunflowers, canola and lot of other crops that never panned out here not because I couldn't grow them but because the market never developed competitively. So we are stuck with corn, soybeans and maybe wheat...

Rye grows like crazy, grows well here. 500 ac would be way too much for me. Could you try 100 ac? I would put it on my worst ground. If you have 500 ac of poor ground I imagine the profit potential is there for rye compared to every other crop! Here you might doublecrop it, at your place you could bale straw until frost! Now wouldn't that be fun!!!
