Oil seed is used by a few livestock producers in the area. It is only beneficial if you have excess N fertility. It has a huge taproot and is killed by frost. It works very well on tight soils, but you must have excess N. Here it is used after wheat where manure is applied. Don't sow it too soon or it will go to seed and cause issues the following year. Around here that means not before Labour Day.
