Crop insurance has nothing to do with being a BTO.
The rates and coverage is the same for everyone, no matter the acreage size.
And you dont make money on crop insurance, you survive.

The he!! It doesn’t! There are too many guarantees be it crop insurance, the latest arc/plc payment, sdrp etc. All the handouts and insurance guarantees/subsidies drives down the rate of return to the cost of production. Someone who farms 10,000 acre will think nothing of adding another 500 acres for the chance to, worse case scenario make 10 bucks an acre or if commodity prices go wild, he will make $$$$. No big deal. I’m not advocating to execute crop insurance but it has gotten waaaayyy out of hand! To get the inflated farm budget to pass the ag groups lobby to include it with the food stamp program so they can say “commodity support programs are only a small percent of total ag spending”. What a load of bull. Removing crop insurance subsidies would help small farmers and hurt BTO’s. Of course no one running for political office would ever say such a thing. To help the farmers, they need more support, more money, more resources, more guarantees. No we need less
