Not as likely to head to Mexico as you think, when exporting any machine from US it has to have an Export Customs Clearance before it can get past US Customs and Border Protection out of country,
To get the clearance you have to send in a paid in full invoice that shows the VIN of machine and not counting weekends it takes 72 hours to get through, and a stolen machine will have it denied, believe me (I know, trusted a guy I shouldn’t have)
So if it was stolen during weekend it will not go out of country before Thursday.
That is if American Border Agents are doing their job right.
