Other than replacing them, is there a way to test them?

A voltage drop test is the best way to test for bad wires and is very easy to do. Perhaps find a Youtube video to watch. I just fixed a pickup this week that would not start that had a battery cable bad with this test.
Take a digital volt meter set to DC voltage. Hook one lead to one end of the battery cable or wire you are testing. Hook the other lead to other end. (IE. one lead at battery and other lead to starter terminal.) Operate the system you are testing. (try to crank the unit) Volt meter should read nothing to less than 1 volt. Anything higher indicates an issue. Can use the same procedure one the ground side of the battery. (engine block to negative battery terminal)
