| I am sure that people smarter than me have figured this out already but I figured I’d share this for those that like me can take too long to figure the simplest of things out. The latches on the center float of our Macdon headers were sticking so I decided to take them out and free them up. I soaked them in Evapo-rust overnight to eat away at whatever rust it could and then worked at them to get them moving freely with the help of knock’er loose and then finally a generous coating of graphite spray to hopefully keep them free for a while.
One latch on the first header worked fine until I tightened the bolts while installing it. Once tight I couldn’t move the lever easily. I figured it was squeezing the assembly just enough that any remaining rust between the parts was causing the issues.
While doing the second set I noticed that the little round part I circled was moving with the lever but the other one wasn’t moving with the other part. The lever felt fairly free but it wouldn’t move at all when I put it in the vice to stop that part from moving. Once I freed the lever from that little round part it moved like new.
I imagine most already knew that but I figured I’d post this anyways. I was thinking about buying new latches but now these old ones work just like new again. Maybe it will save someone else from buying new latches.
