| Terrible.
I harvested my good places with a cow, but my gain checks were the smallest I’ve had in a long time. Lack of rainfall delayed cattle initially, then cowboys being scared of buying calves delayed them again. So we’re getting less days of grazing all around. Poor profitability is making it hard to do what I want for fertility.
What didn’t get grazed was appraised at about 20% of my aph and it was not a great appraisal. It made about 300# of hay an acre before I just quit swathing and sprayed it.
Annual forage rainfall was the only shiny spot in my wheat crop.
I think the solution for me is to quit planting wheat for grain and eventually have enough cows to graze it all myself. I need to rotate some stuff this year to get rid of grassy weeds that are a $20 problem in the wheat. Hopefully cotton continues to go up. When your staring at $100 gross and you have to give a land lord $30 of that, $20 for axial bold spray, $5 for general weeds, $5 seed treatment, $5 seed, $20 at plant fert and $30 top dress doing bare minimum that’s not a pretty budget. | |
