Subject: RE: Pea picking time in the Delta

North of London

My history, first job with a paycheque was forking green pea vines into a machine to shell them.
It was as big as a bus and the whole vine was cut close to the ground and loaded on dump trucks that dumped their load in front to what was called a viner that I got paid to unravel the load and fork into the finer.

It had a large drum with paddles that went the opposite direction to the outside that was made of rubber screens to let the peas fall  out.

As I noted it was my first job off the home farm and it gave me my first paycheque.
I was only 15 but the person hiring me said if anyone asked just tell them you are 16.

A lot of money for a young fella at 78 cents an hour back then
Got a raise the next summer and was paid a whopping 82 cents

that was a long time ago
