Does the South differentiate between cowpeas and sweet or field peas in cooking or local naming conventions?

In the South, peas are usually called "English" peas. When I was in the Navy, I spent a lot of time in Maryland, Virginia, Florida, and Tennessee, so I got to taste and enjoy lots of different vegetables and other food. Most of it was enjoyable. Do remember buying "peas and snaps," which I think are close to what is happening in Arkansas in this thread.

Regular "English" peas do not do well in hot weather.
