Back in the day when I was working with a larger/fast growing seed company and corn hit $4.00/bushel the first time, the CEO made the comment one day that he was for sure going to get "my share of that." His current cost of production and a "fair" profit margin had nothing to do with the next years seed prices.
As long as everyone is willing to pre-pay almost a full year in advance trying to cut their neighbors throats farming more for less, some things will never change.
