Defoliation (% Leaf area dead or removed) starts at 7th actual leaf stage in NCIS hail manual. Ex.- at 7 leaf stage 40% defoliation = 1 % loss. Sometimes shredded leaf area wrapping around the plant (called a "tie") can result in some reduced ear size. Keep an eye on those plants, yield loss would appear to be minimal at this time - given normal weather rest of growing season.
