Drift retardants. Do they do any good?

From what I have seen, they probably do reduce drift. They can be overused.
I watched the local FS spray one day and it was way to windy for my taste. The stuff came out of the sprayer and made big sheets. Almost like blowing big bubbles.
We had good control in places and then none in others. The way the weeds came made me think we had control where the sheets landed.
The other thing I didn't like was the cost of the retardant. It was almost as much as the chemical. My personal thought is if the wind is blowing 25-30 MPH with gusts to 45, and you are spraying upwind of a vineyard, you shouldn't be spraying.
