Subject: RE: Tar Spot in Iowa

Iowa
I saw what looks like tar spot today. It was on the lower leaves of a 115 day hybrid planted into a lot of residue from last year's corn in a wet area of the field. We had heavy rain last week. The corn looked consistent across the field last week prior to the rain, but the wet areas are showing some stress now. I had some fungicide in the post spray application today as planned last December. This application was delayed until today due to excessive rain. It does not cost much to add a fungicide to the post emerge herbicide. I have another fungicide application planned later. The later application is more expensive with the extra application cost and some insecticide. Time will tell if it is worth the extra cost. It was last year......Of course, if I would not have used a fungicide last year, there would not have been so much corn residue this year to keep the soil so cold and wet.....
