That's not necessarily true. The bodies overactive immune response causes collateral damage to normal healthy tissue. It's really not attacking your healthy tissue. The primary cause of your infection is also at such a high level and spreading to other vital organs. That's why treatment for sepsis trys to control inflammation but more importantly antibiotics have to used to kill the causative agent.
