Southeast Colorado | There is one being proposed near Garden City KS. The locals were in an uproar at a city meeting a couple of weeks ago. The proposed area was 12 sq miles.........so 7,680 acres. I'm not close enough to have a personal interest...........but I wouldn't have minded hearing what went on at the meeting. I do know that area is pretty prime irrigated crop producing land. My guess............is that the facility wouldn't be nearly that large.........but they needed that much land to secure the water rights necessary to make it function.
I honestly don't have a major opinion on whether what's happening will ultimately be good or bad for the world.........but it's probably happening whether we want it or not. When it comes to taking out farmland..........I'm not concerned about that at all. While it may prove goofy..........right now corn is barely worth $4.........and the wheat price is just silly from an economic standpoint for the grower. So why should we be concerned about some crop acres being taken out? | |
