Currently batteries are not sufficient to back up the entire renewable energy produced, but utility battery capacity increased by 66%
this past year.

Also currently fossil fuels are doing a large percentage of electricity production, but the vast majority of new electric production is coming from renewables. This is due to renewables backed up by batteries being the cheapest source for new energy production. If I was spending $100000 per year on electricity, I would be leading the band wagon for renewable energy production to keep my electric bill in check.
