I think the reality is that solar is far more efficient than row crop will ever be, but solar collection will change too. Today it’s big clunky permanent panels, in 50 years is it a modified plant that they literally suck energy out of? I’d think so. That’s why I’d never make a commitment to solar right now - it’s in its beginning and will change a lot going forward.

The other thing I think is kinda funny is all the people who say “but it’s farmland”, yes and for most of North America it has been farmland for less than 200 years, but had been prairie or forest for 1000’s of years before that. I’m just saying farmland isn’t a sacred cow- especially to people not farming.

Humanity is changing - for years the need was food for survival- today the only places struggling with this are areas where the government chooses to oppress people. Today the need is for energy- to use ai and machines to do the work for us. Population is projected to decline starting in 2100, and already is declining in most developed countries.
