Subject: Budget tillage

Top middle of MO. land of green hills and grass
Have been all notill. Left some tracks in a few areas a year ago and need to resolve.

Bean/wheat/cover rotation.

Thinking about something I could run after bean harvest in fall ahead of seeding rye/wheat or could run over wheat straw in summer. Don’t tend to harvest the straw, and normally cut it high, so decent amounts of residue to manage.

Have a 4440 or 7800mfwd as options. 7800 pulls planter and cart in fall, so it stays busy as is.

Good amount of clay in soils and mix of hill/bottom

Looking at some soil finishers with gang of discs in front and harrow behind cultivator shanks.

Thoughts?
