Subject: RE: 12'x50' receiving pit

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
Would love to see more pictures since we will be doing something similar soon.

My Great Nephew has ordered a pit which will be installed soon (we hope). This is a modernization of their drying setup that has evolved through the years. Like many setups, had they known what was going to happen, they would have proceeded differently in the past. It is now a combination of using what is there with the limited space available.

As I understand it, this pit will be able to hold a semi load of corn. A cross auger and output auger will take the corn to a wet leg. The corn from the pit will generally be directed to either Wet Bin A or Wet Bin B. The wet leg is also able to take wet corn from either Wet Bin A or Wet Bin B to fill the dryer.

The dry corn after being dried by the dryer goes into a separate Dry leg which delivers it to any of several destination bins. There will be a bypass arrangement so corn from the pit could bypass the Wet Bins and go directly to the dry leg and finally to a destination bin. This route would be used when drying the corn in not necessary.

This allows for several combinations to utilize their situation of feeding a fair amount of the corn crop to hogs. The corn that is going to be fed soon can be at different moisture levels.

My understanding is the construction will proceed much like digging a basement for a house. A hole will be dug, walls and floor poured and the pit lifted and placed into the "basement". There will be a pit within the basement for a sump pump to pump out any accumulated water. There will be some type of access ladder or stairs to the pit.

I now see your pictures. I envision that the project here will be similar in many respects but not quite as involved. Keep the pictures coming.

The company that makes the pit is also involved with pouring the basement etc. so hopefully there should be no conflict between contractors as far as the dimensions and construction of the "basement".

The pit assembly is completed but has not yet been delivered. Hopefully the next stages will start soon.
