Subject: RE: Precision planting vs conventional old school planter

Northeast Missouri
I have ran Kinze 3600 box fills with all the precision goodies, a brand new Fendt momentum, and also a fully restored John Deere 7000 with chain drives and air bag down force.

The precision upgrades help tremendously with overall efficiency (planting speed. No time lost moving chains around to change population, just click a button. No fooling with downpressure springs, just set it to whatever down pressure you want. Etc.)

Now will those upgrades increase final yield? In my variable Missouri soils it’s probable, but not a 100% certainty. If we don’t get any rain in August we’ll have an insurance claim regardless of what planted the seed.

The planter we run right now is a 16/31 Kinze, spring down force, but vset/vdrive meters. I think this is a reasonable middle ground and gives the most opportunity for ROI. A good average of speed and field efficiency, while also not breaking the bank.
