| So we bought a used planter this winter with 360 Bandits on it. We have been using a row starter concoction of 19-17-0, ATS, Zinc, and Xyway. My questions are, does the phosphorous move lower with the nitrogen? I like the idea of the Bandits, but they are not putting the fertilizer more than ¾” deep. I don’t like the idea of the phosphate being that shallow. Also, is 3 gallons of ATS enough to stabilize 12 gallons of 19-17-0? I can see wet soil where the Bandits are running, so it is definitely not all buried in the soil. It’s too late for this year, as I have already mixed up my starter, but maybe in the future, I should just use 32% and ATS, if the phosphate isn’t going to get to the roots anyway. I have read that the nitrogen, helps carry the phosphate down with it. Is there any truth to that? I can’t find any great studies on any of this. I didn’t really think about this with my old 2x2 system, because it definitely buried all of the starter. I always thought it was better to bury the starter, to prevent volatilization, and to get the P in the root zone. Definitely not going to happen with this system, and maybe that's ok? We are in Indiana, so rainfall after planting can vary from way too much, to just right, to zero for a few weeks. | |
