
| Hick - 4/2/2026 18:28 It’s all about PTC, production tax credits. You sell power for $30 a megawatt plus get another $10 a megawatt directly off your federal tax bill. Don’t quote me on the exact numbers. A good wind mill could shave $300,000 off of a tax bill per year. Hardest part of building a wind farm is getting an interconnect to the grid. That’s why they tare one down and put up another one and the same area. You can also update a wind mill to receive a PTC. They did the same thing here a few years back.
The power is worth roughly $30/megawatt on the wholesale market and the PTC (aka govt subsidy) is worth ~$30/megawatt.
The PTC is the sole reason wind and solar get built.
Imagine getting a $4/bushel production tax credit for growing corn or a $10/bushel production tax credit for growing beans…..
