NCSD | 30 years ago when one of the local elevators was pushing something called condo storage to a group of area farmers there was much discussion and angst over what to do with spring wheat (different protein levels, discounts etc etc)
I asked what happens if corn and bean yields improve due to genetic advancement and wheat doesn’t keep pace and we don’t raise much wheat around here anymore…
The guy laughed and said “this is wheat country” that won’t be an issue.
30 years later I don’t think anyone can make much of a claim that this is “wheat country” as of now.
Outside of 3 or 4 farmers that grow seed wheat the rest of acres going to wheat here are very close to zero. | |
