ecmn | You have to introduce them. don't just turn them out full time on day 1. If the grass is really young and rich, I would hold off. They will squirt their gains out their backside. Only supplement you should need is minerals/salt and fiber.
If they are walking and grazing all day long and not laying down and chewing cud like in the feed lot check the manure, probably still to loose,
Horse hay is our friend. 9%protien lots of fiber.
If your management is meeting the animals nutritional needs rate of gain and quality of meet will be just as good as anything else.
We are a start to finish on grass/ alfalfa for reference.
