Subject: RE: Nearly april

Cambridge, southwestern Nebraska
More concerned than ever before. Most guys older than me are saying they have never seen anything like it.
Drilled some oats where we vertical tilled ahead of the drill. Never saw moisture. Ground was not only dry but HARD and dry.
Losing wheat in March. Usually doesn’t happen until April or May at least. In fact it’s rare for us to completely lose a summerfallow wheat crop.
Right now very few are doing any field work. Not applying fertilizer. Too dry to strip till.
Big fire threat every time the wind blows.
We have a quarter inch of rain forecasted in a couple days. Otherwise nothing for the next 10. Haven’t had anything since early December. And it been a very warm winter with no snow cover at all. Moisture just evaporated out of the ground all winter.
