NS Canada | Bald eagles are very common here. Dozens around, I still havent figured out how they find stuff so quickly. I usually assume the crows find it first and the commotion attracts the eagles. But I've seen afterbirth be 99% buried in a manure pile, and somehow the eagles show up within a few hours, very high in the sky circling at first. They have a distinct high pitch screech when doing so.
They must also be able to smell incredibly well or something, because I've also shot raccoons and had them buried in the pile, and they find them too. There's no way they're spotting them by sight.
Had a heifer die of bloat last fall though, and they didn't touch that carcass for a loooong time, but eventually it got picked over after 6-8 weeks. Where as a dead deer around the same time, was cleaned up within a day and a half. | |
