What we have done is cut the fence and push them on to green wheat in spring or green hay millet in summer time. It may burn but it’s harder to get the fire going in that and gives you valuable time. Trying to fight these prairie fires is hard to do. They move so fast and cover acres in no time at all.

Iv pulled our semi water trailer trying to spray the fire line down but all your doing trying your hardest to say ahead of the line and your melting stuff. Tractor and disk is a good plan B. I wouldn’t get cought in a pickup tho. Just takes one tire to get hot and pop! and then you’re running on foot. And you can’t run fast enough.!!!!

My soapbox PSA for the day:
On a range fire in grass or light brush like a plum thicket; if you're going to get burned over due to a mechanical failure, or because you got pinched by terrain, STAY IN THE TRUCK WITH THE WINDOWS UP NO MATTER WHAT UNTIL THE FLAME FRONT PASSES! The truck might catch fire, but probably not(we routinely drive across the flaming front to access either the green or black sides of 6-10ft flame lengths depending on conditions.) And even if it does, it takes time for it to get bad enough to chase you out of the cab. Its the best place of refuge you will find unless theres a house or a large bare patch of dirt only a few feet away to hide in. You CAN NOT outrun the fire on foot.
